SHIFT Magazine
Published 2017 - 2018.
SHIFT is the official undergraduate magazine of Architecture and Visual Studies, dedicated to exploring the intersections of art, architecture, and activism. Each issue brings together student perspectives, creative works, and critical reflections that respond to current spatial, political, and cultural conditions.
SHIFT 08 centers on the faculty’s 2017 move to the historic One Spadina building, reflecting on the excitement and tensions of inhabiting a new space. Through essays, artworks, and photography, contributors explore themes of memory, transition, and place. SHIFT 07, on the other hand, examines the politics of design through the lens of demand and supply, therefore engaging with subjects such as urban development, environmental collapse, and violence in Muslim-majority countries. Both issues highlight the power of visual and spatial practice to question, respond to, and reshape the world around us.
